1. Reduce fuel for acid-producing bacteria — Xylitol

Bacteria like Streptococcus mutans ferment sugar into acid that erodes enamel. Xylitol resists that fermentation, so swapping it in as a sweetener is a genuine, mechanistically sound idea. 2. Interfere with pathogen adhesion — Cranberry Extract

Cranberry proanthocyanidins have shown, in laboratory studies, the ability to make it harder for bacteria and fungi to stick to tooth-like surfaces and to interfere with biofilm formation and acid production by Streptococcus mutans. This is a real, published mechanism — observed in vitro and in one rodent caries study, not yet confirmed as a measurable in-mouth effect from an oral tablet in humans.

3. Introduce favorable bacteria — Probiotic Strains

The idea of "crowding out" less-favorable bacteria with beneficial strains has real systematic-review support at the category level for reducing counts of cavity-associated bacteria. The catch: this effect is strain-specific, and ProvaDent does not disclose which strains it uses, which prevents us from confirming they match the strains actually studied.
